چکیده

purpose : to study optical coherence tomography (oct) findings in high myopic patients with the history of uncomplicated cataract surgery methods : the sample included 34 eyes of 24 highly myopic patients with an axial length (al) of 26 mm or more and a spherical equivalent (se) of 8.0 diopter (d) or more who had uncomplicated phacoemulsification cataract surgery. octs were done in multiple sections around optic disc and fovea. results : the mean age of the 24 patients was 58.9±12.9 years, and the mean se was 14.5±5.8 d. the mean time gap between cataract surgery and oct studies was 15.6±18 months, and the mean al was 29.1±2.1 mm. the most common oct findings were vascular microfolds (67.6%) and paravascular retinal cysts (64.7%). vascular microfolds were found significantly associated with age. internal limiting membrane (ilm) detachment was significantly associated with gender (female group). peripapillary choroidal cavitation had a significant direct association with postoperative elapsed time in all ages. conclusion : vascular microfolds and paravascular retinal cysts are the most common pathologies in myopic (aphakic and pseudophakic) persons. ilm detachment is more common in females. peripapillay cavitation incidence is associated with postoperative elapsed time.      iranian journal of ophthalmology 201123(4):49-54 © 2011 by the iranian society of ophthalmology

Optical Coherence Tomographic Findings in Highly Myopic Eyes

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has enhanced our understanding of changes in different ocular layers when axial myopia progresses and the globe is stretched. These findings consist of dehiscence of retinal layers known as retinoschisis, paravascular inner retinal cleavage, cysts and lamellar holes, peripapillary intrachoroidal cavitation, tractional internal limiting membrane detachment, mac...

Retinal and choroidal biometry in highly myopic eyes with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography.

PURPOSE Morphologic changes in the retina and choroid are closely related with high myopia-related diseases. This study was conducted to evaluate the morphologic characteristics of normal highly myopic eyes. METHODS Thirty-one phakic highly myopic eyes with no posterior abnormalities (18 patients; mean +/- SD age, 51.7 +/- 11.4 years) were enrolled. Retinal-choroidal thickness at the fovea 1....

Optical coherence tomography findings in myopic traction maculopathy.

OBJECTIVE To describe the features and incidence of epiretinal traction and related retinal damage in degenerative myopia. DESIGN Consecutive observational case series. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed medical records and optical coherence tomography findings of 218 eyes with high myopia of 121 consecutive patients to detect the incidence and features of epiretinal traction-related macul...

Subluxed traumatic cataract: optical coherence tomography findings and clinical management

This case report describes the optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings and clinical management of a patient with traumatic subluxed cataract. The patient presented with a traumatic subluxed cataract and vitreous prolapse into the anterior chamber. The anterior segment OCT showed vacuoles in the anterior subcapsular regions of the crystalline lens. The patient was treated with pars plana len...

Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery with integrated optical coherence tomography.

About one-third of people in the developed world will undergo cataract surgery in their lifetime. Although marked improvements in surgical technique have occurred since the development of the current approach to lens replacement in the late 1960s and early 1970s, some critical steps of the procedure can still only be executed with limited precision. Current practice requires manual formation of...

Partial Coherence Laser Interferometry in Highly Myopic versus Emmetropic Eyes

PURPOSE To investigate the reliability of partial coherence laser interferometry for optical biometry in highly myopic eyes. METHODS Axial length measurements by the IOLMaster (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany) with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) ≥2 were performed in 52 consecutive myopic subjects with axial length ≥26.5 mm and 45 emmetropic patients before cataract surgery. Axial length measurements...
